Cemetery Statues: When is It Appropriate and for Whom?

Using statues at gravesites is not reserved for just presidents and war heroes anymore. People that have passed away were all special to someone, and deserve to be honored in a unique and special fashion. When someone that you care about passes, it's a good idea to consider what brought them joy in life. If they were a lover of great art, and appreciated the work that went in to sculpture, a beautiful sentiment could be to leave a cemetery statue at their gravestone. Cemetery statues are also appropriate for graves that you know will be visited often. These statues can be used as markers to help the bereaved find a particular gravesite. Statues, however, should reflect the wishes of the deceased rather the living (for example, do not use the Virgin Mary as a cemetery statue if the deceased was an atheist). You do not want to place something at their grave that would make them uncomfortable and they would not have appreciated while they were still alive.

It may also be useful to have a cemetery statue for prominent people in the community that pass away. People such as mayors, governors, and prominent community help workers (police, firefighters, and similar public servants) deserve to be recognized for their advancements and the service to their community. What a beautiful way for the community to come together and to commemorate a person that helped build their community. It's a mark of distinction to have a cemetery statue honor your life. There, in the town, would stand something that would represent the very core of the community, and would be a great way to say "Thank You for all that you have done," as a final farewell for the one they have lost.

For the art lover, it is completely appropriate to have a cemetery statue in honor of them at their gravesite. Even if the deceased is not a prominent member of your town's community, there is no better way to pay homage to your loved one than with something that they would cherish and appreciate. These statues do not have to be the large life-sized memorials that you sometimes see for political and community figures, but something more discreet, such as a vase or small angelic figure to always stand watch at the gravesite. Everybody has someone that will miss them after they pass on, so why should only certain people get to express how they feel or pay their respects to their loved ones through a cemetery statue?

Find something that is unique, beautiful, and special to the person's whose life you are celebrating. Always think about something that will last, just like the memories that you have in your mind and in your heart. A thorough search will give you many options for the perfect cemetery statue that truly represents your loved ones and gives those grieving the solace and strength they need to work through grief, and remember the deceased fondly.
